We’re incredibly excited for the season to get started! As we look ahead to the next couple of months, there are several important dates to get on your calendars. We also have a couple of new opportunities this year designed around a simple goal: getting our kids more ice time, more puck touches, and more opportunities to play and have fun.

NEW – Mite 4-on-4 League
We’re excited to add a Mite 4-on-4 League on the small ice this fall, starting the week of September 14.
Games will take place Monday and Tuesday evenings from 5:00–7:30 PM. The goal is simple: get the kids skating, competing, touching the puck, and most importantly, having fun.
We’ll break the players into even matchups and adjust teams as needed throughout the program. This will be pond-hockey style with no goalies—just kids playing hockey, competing, and having fun.
Cost: $80

Families will also be able to enter their availability in Crossbar, which will allow us to adjust teams and matchups each night based on who is available.
This should be a ton of fun for our Mites, this will run through Travel Tryouts.
Travel Tryouts – October 5, 6 & 8
This year, all travel age groups—Squirt, Peewee, and Bantam—will try out during the same week.
Monday, October 5
Tuesday, October 6
Thursday, October 8
Specific tryout times and additional details will be sent out soon.
NEW – Open Play on the Small Ice
Once travel tryouts are complete and the regular season begins, we will also be introducing Open Play on the small ice.
The concept is pretty simple: when the large ice is being utilized and the small ice is sitting unused, we want our kids to be able to use it.
Open Play will be available to registered FVYHA players from U6 Mites through Bantams. Players can work on their game, shoot pucks, play small-area games, scrimmage with friends, or simply get on the ice and have fun.
A few important guidelines:
Open Play is limited to registered FVYHA players. Ice access is part of your registration, and the appropriate waivers have already been completed through registration.
Players under 12 must have adult supervision. At least one adult must be in the small-ice area or watching from the fishbowl room. One adult can be responsible for multiple players.
Players 12 and older may use the ice without direct adult supervision. We trust them to make good decisions and use the ice appropriately. Be role models for younger skaters.
Open Play will be available primarily on weekends.
We will communicate available Open Play times before each weekend.
Open Play will not begin until after travel tryouts are completed.
There will be ZERO TOLERANCE for misuse of the ice. If a player is behaving inappropriately, creating an unsafe environment, or putting other skaters at risk, their Open Play privileges will be revoked.
The intent here is not to create another structured practice. In fact, it’s the opposite. We want kids to have access to the ice and the freedom to play. Work on your shot. Play 2-on-2 or 3-on-3. Try something new. Make mistakes. Compete with your friends. Have fun.
Our goal is simple: give kids access to ice.
We want to provide opportunities for the kids who want to push themselves, spend more time at the rink, work on their game, and see how far hockey can take them. At the same time, we want the rink to be a place where kids simply love coming to play hockey with their friends.
More ice. More puck touches. More creativity. More fun.
We’re excited about the season ahead and continuing to find ways to give our Blades players opportunities to develop, compete, and enjoy the game.
See you at the rink!
Go Blades!
